New Product: True Linkswear Golf Shoes

We are excited to be stocking the True Tour golf shoe.  These shoes are very unique in design and some of the most comfortable shoes you will ever wear.  The shoes are built with Zero Drop, which means that the heel and forefoot are the same distance off of the ground.  True Linkswear says this encourages a more natural walking stride along with better posture and body alignment during the swing.  Next time you are in the golf shop take a second to try on your size and feel the difference.  We currently only have our initial order of 12 pair, so some sizing might be limited.  More will be coming soon.

Tip of the Week: Let's Cure that Slice!

Here is a simple tip that will help cure your slice and add distance to your drives quicker than a trip to the doctor!  Golfers have a tendency to leave the clubface open at impact and not release their club head through the ball.  This drill will help you get the club on the correct swing plane and fascilitate releasing the club through the ball.

In the first picture you will notice that I start with the club in the correct position after impact.  For this drill we will start with the club in that position.  With relaxed arms and a soft grip begin your back swing.

Make sure you make a good turn and get the club above your right shoulder.  Relax!  A tense grip and arms will inhibit the club from releasing at impact.  As you begin your down swing, let the club do all the work.  It naturally wants to release itself through the hitting area.

Make a solid turn and good finish through the ball.  This is a great warm-up before you hit your first shot on the driving range or the course. Amazingly enough by relaxing, you will see huge improvements in distance and accuracy.

The "Real" Match Play Championship - As the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is being played in Arizona this week, a less publicized but just as important match is being held at Cinnabar Hills today.  Fred Garcia, the reigning golf shop champion, will take on Sam Yang, the current Men's Club match play champion at 1:30.

The match will be held on the Mountain and Lake Courses.

Despite his enormous rounds played advantage, Sam is a slight underdog to the veteran.  Expectations are very high that this will be a legendary match.  The two have never faced off before, as both have feared each other's talents.  The injury report is extensive for both players and the slightest twitch could lead to disaster for either.  Sam has been playing with a torn meniscus in his right knee, but that hasn't stopped him from already posting 24 rounds this year!  Fred, who is tuning up for the US Senior Open qualifier, suffers from two degenerative disks in his lower back.  He has lost a fair amount of yardage off the tee, but his short game more than makes up for his lack of power.  As both players have been dodging the status as the favorite, a quiet confidence rises in both.  We expect a very competitive match that should come down to the challenging last few holes on the Lake Course, the same three holes that secured Fred's stunning victory over Hollis Kelley last week.  Check in with the Golf Shop this afternoon, as we should have updates available.  Good luck to both!

Brandenburg Historical Golf Museum
Dwight Eisenhower

The museum houses one of the rarest items you will find outside Augusta National, a member's jacket.  You will find Eisenhower's original Augusta National member's jacket on display, along with many pictures of the former President of the United States.  Next time you are out at Cinnabar, take a moment to view the President's jacket and collection.

"One would be hard-pressed to find any single person who did more to popularize the game of golf, not only in the United States but throughout the world, than President Eisenhower. His visibility, coupled with his passion for the game, were the inspiration for literally millions of people picking up the game for the first time. Those involved in golf today owe him a great debt of gratitude." - Arnold Palmer

Tip of the Week:    A Golfing Life ...
In the typical golfer's life, the average player improves for the first two to three years, the index dropping consistently. This is followed by a long plateau, where the index stays roughly the same year to year. As the player ages, their distance goes down, their index goes up, then they die .... Sad story, huh?
The good news is that much more is possible! I've been coaching with Extraordinary Golf for almost 20 years, and the results I see regularly blows that sad story away!! Improvement is possible at any point in a
golfer's life, if they continue LEARNING ....

To restart a stuck golfer, the most important ingredient is an experienced professional to guide your learning. Ideally, this coach will provide a non-judgmental set of eyes to help you see and experience things you did not see or experience before. This type of coaching leads to more solid contact, improved accuracy, and more freedom and fun while playing the game.

Hope to see you at Cinnabar Hills sometime soon ... Bill Condaxis aka  the "Golfer Whisperer"

It was through taking lessons with Fred Shoemaker while playing professionally that Bill found his way to Extraordinary Golf in the early 90's. He’s been a Class A PGA professional since '93, an Extraordinary Golf coach since '94 and a program leader since '96.

The Brandenburg Historical Golf Museum

Watch CBS Video of Museum Here

The Brandenburg Historical Golf Museum at Cinnabar Hills

Cinnabar Hills is lucky to have one the finest collection of golf memorabilia and artifacts anywhere in the world.  Lee Brandenburg has been the catalyst behind this unique and extraordinary collection.  Recently KCBS came out to do a story on the museum and its ties to the Crosby Pro-Am (see the link above for the video).  As Dennis O'Donnell says, there is nothing like the collection anywhere at Pebble.  The Brandenburg Historical Golf Museum holds original programs from the 40's, Jim Beam Collector's bottles, a replica of the Waterford Crystal Trophy given to the winner and a huge collection of photographs from the past Crosby tournaments.  In addition to the Crosby and AT&T Pro-Am memorabilia, the museum houses a large collection of items from Augusta National and the Masters, the Ryder Cup, replica trophies of the four majors and Ryder Cup, items from the legends of golf, as well as memorabilia that date back to the origins of the game.  We are very proud of the collection and hope everyone takes the time to take a trip out to enjoy the history of such a great game.

Each week we will feature a piece of memorabilia from the Museum in this blog.  We are always adding items to the collection and will keep everyone apprised of what is new.

Hope everyone can make it out to enjoy the Museum and everything Cinnabar Hills has to offer the golf enthusiast.

Tip of the Week: Proper Alignment

I have been to my fair share of professional golf tournaments and I always like to stop at the range to watch professionals practice and warm up. One thing is constant, they all use some kind of alignment tool. If the pros are doing it, then you should be doing it too.

The correct alignment is crucial for the proper path of your golf club. To aid with your practice or warm-up session, use old shafts, clubs, or alignment sticks and lay them parallel to your target line as shown in the top left photo.

Now you are all set to practice. Line up your feet and shoulders parallel to your alignment tools( middle photograph).

Make sure to take a few looks at the target before hitting each shot (bottom photo). This is important because you visually need to get used to what it looks like to be set up correctly, which will allow you to take this proper alignment to the golf course. I hope you enjoyed this simple tip and remember take advantage of things you can control on the golf course, like proper alignment.

Fred Garcia is the Golf Shop Match Play Champion!

The match came down to the wire and Fred was able to hold on to a one up victory.  The match was played on the Mountain and Lake Courses.  Fred was able to hit all 14 fairways, always keeping the pressure on Hollis.  Hollis made a nice come back from a two down deficit by winning the 14th and 15th holes to draw the match even.  Hollis however made a costly bogey on the 16th hole (Lake #7) that put Fred 1up with two holes to play. After a beautiful 8 Iron to 4' on the 17th hole (Lake#8), Hollis was feeling the pressure and unable to capitalize on his birdie putt to draw the match back to even.  On Lake #9, Fred sealed his victory with another accurate drive and hybrid to 12' as the sun was setting on the horizon and Hollis' reign as defending champion.

Fred's steady play throughout the tournament earned him his 2nd Match Play Championship in the past 5 years and a new Scotty Cameron Putter.  Fred looks forward to playing Sam Yang, Cinnabar Hills Men's Club Champion, to see who the true champion is!  It should be a great match as the best in the golf shop takes on the best from the men's club.
